Lemon Fresh - 10 Ways To Clean With A Fresh Lemon

Now that Spring has finally sprung our Spring cleaning can begin. A great cleaning aid (that is often overlooked) is the lovely little lemon. Here are 10 ways that this amazing fruit can make things sparkle and shine.

1) Steam Clean Your Microwave

Place a sliced lemon in a bowl and fill halfway with water. Microwave for 4 minutes, then leave the bowl in the microwave for a further 5 minutes. Do not open the microwave door! The lemon steam will loosen any stuck on food, making it easy to wipe clean. The steam also neutralises any bad smells.

2) Banish Bad Smells

Is your fridge stinkier than it should be? Cut a lemon in half and leave it in your fridge overnight. By the morning your fridge will smell clean and zesty.

3) Remove Water Stains From Glasses

Either rub half a lemon directly onto water stains or squeeze the lemon onto a sponge and wipe the glass. Rinse in warm water and admire your streak free glasses.

4) Dirty Dishwasher

Pop a lemon in a cup and place it on the bottom rack of your dishwasher. Set to a rinse cycle and your dishwasher will be squeaky clean and lemon fresh.

5) Add A Touch Of Sparkle

Make your mirrors and windows sparkling clean. Mix 1 tbsp. of white vinegar with 2 tbsp. of lemon juice then add a cup of hot water (not boiling). Give it a swish to mix the ingredients together, decant the mixture into a spray bottle and start cleaning.

6) Brilliant Blender

Chop up a lemon and blend it with a drop of washing up liquid and water. Empty and rinse your blender and it will be like new.

7) Remove Rust

Mix 1 tbsp. of lemon juice with 2 tbsp. of salt to form a paste. Rub the paste into the rusty area and scrub with an old toothbrush. Rinse with warm water.

 8) Chopping Board Therapy

Sprinkle your chopping board with rock salt and squeeze a little lemon juice on top. Then use half a lemon to rub the chopping board and remove all of the stains. Don’t forget to rinse it afterwards.

9) Pesky Lime Scale

Pop 4 halved lemons into your kettle, top with water and boil. Leave overnight and then boil it again in the morning. Empty and rinse and it’s as good as new.

10) Gleaming Grout

Remove grime from grout by rubbing with lemon juice. Leave it for 10 minutes and then scrub with an old toothbrush.
